AI/technology reflects the (often unsavory) reality of our society and lofty aspirations of mostly homogenous male-dominated tech teams. To your point, techno-solutionists claim they can fix the ills of modern society while ethical researchers/ ethicists rightly point out the current efforts are inadequate/flawed. But progress is slow as making techno-solutions "responsible" is easier (and more lucrative) than solving systemic societal issues. Inclusion of marginalized at-risk communities in the design and development process is critical but also continues to be an uphill battle.
